Advantages of Skype Therapy
While it is always best to see a therapist in person, it can be a real struggle for some to get to therapy every week. Having video therapy by Skype or FaceTime best suits people who need an alternative to in-office visits due to travelling, moving away, physical mobility problems and emotional problems that keep them housebound.
Skype is available for Windows and Mac systems and can be downloaded for free at www.skype.com. FaceTime is available on all Mac systems.
It is important to try and create the kind of privacy you would have in the counselling office. This means using headphones and having an appropriate space without interruptions or distractions for your sessions.
It is also important to understand that like email and cell phones, Skype while encrypted, is not 100% guaranteed. Information transmitted over the internet could be intercepted and while this is very unlikely, I have no way of controlling it.
